Recently, the environmental charity WRAP launched the Resource Revolution, a five year plan with the intention of revolutionising the way which commercial and industrial sites use a range of resources. All over the world, the pressure on available natural resources is continuing to increase as a result of rising populations. The ways in which we produce, consume and deal with our waste needs a complete rethink.

Thanks to commercial skip hire which focuses on sustainable recycling and destruction of all materials, many businesses are already making moves in the right direction, but something much more comprehensive is needed if we’re going to become an eco-efficient and environmentally-friendly society.

What Is WRAP’s Resource Revolution?

In the past, WRAP have enjoyed a strong reputation when it comes to identifying areas of waste and discovering how to make a positive impact to reducing the amount that is produced. With the dual-goal of reducing waste and improving efficiency, WRAP’s international strategy addresses the idea of “business as usual”, particularly when it comes to commercial consumption.

The Resource Revolution promotes the three “R’s” of future waste management:

  • Re-Inventing The Design, Production And Sales Of Products
  • Re-Thinking How Products Are Used And Consumed By Our Society
  • Re-Defining What’s Possible, Through Recycling And Reuses Of Goods

Which Industries Will WRAP’s Revolution Target?

Over the next five years, the three chief areas which will be prioritised are, unsurprisingly, those which hold the highest potential with regards to improving environmental efficiency. These three industries are:

  • Food And Drink
  • Clothing And Textiles
  • Electricals And Electronics

These three industries are the biggest creators of waste in the UK; in fact, they are collectively responsible for as much as 25% of the UK’s carbon footprint, 40% of the UK’s household waste and 80% of our water footprint.

What Are The Goals Of WRAP’s Campaign?

The Resource Revolution is designed, by 2020, to address issues including food quality and waste efficiency, reductions in the manufacturing of clothes and textiles which are harmful to the environment and more effective WEEE recycling practices.

By raising awareness with regards to the wasteful systems we currently use, and promoting alternative methods for these commercial industries, WRAP are hoping to make a real impact on the amount of waste they create.

In order to make real change, it is important that individual businesses within these industries make the most of ethical, environmentally-friendly commercial skip hire throughout the UK. In order to achieve the sustainability targets set down by the EU by 2020, it is important that every commercial or industrial enterprise truly consider how they can improve their efficiency and eliminate any form of waste.
