Knauf plasterboard recycling project

As part of Knauf Drywall's commitment to sustainable processes, Skippy have been supporting them in their R3 recycling scheme which ensures as much plasterboard as possible from Knauf's customers' sites is taken and reprocessed at one of their specialist R3 partners.

Where distance from the construction sites make this approach impractical, Skippy ensure that the Knauf customers' plasterboard waste is still treated and recycled via the best available facility to avoid sending any to landfill. Not only is this in line with the new plasterboard and gypsum regulations, but also this "closed loop" approach is the best practice for this waste type, saving money and reducing the need for raw materials to manufacture the plasterboard in the first instance.

The solutions can be tailored for each site to accommodate site specific issues such as space or storage issues in city centre sites where the space is at a premium. The materials can be collected in bags, bins or skips: whatever is the most practical for the site.

Once waste is collected, it is taken for reprocessing. Knauf Drywall's plasterboard plants are among the most sophisticated in the world and are set to take recycled plasterboard waste for use in the manufacturing process. This results in a top quality board, coupled with the fact that the entire process is as environmentally friendly as possible.
